The berries have been put to bed for the season. It's been a blinding fast year! Everything started blooming early and I just tried to keep up! We were able to meet our customers' berry tastes with red raspberries and blueberries starting in mid June followed with tart cherries and blackberries.
Thank you everyone for your patience and compliance in meeting our COVID-19 state regulations. We had many new families visit the farm and hope to see everyone again next berry season.
The tart cherries which I tell everyone - cherry pie/fourth of July - actually began in late June this year.
The cherries were picked, pitted and put away by mid-July. It wasn't one of our best years for quantity of tart cherries. I hope you were able to get some for yourselves! We have expanded our black raspberries for u-pick and more are scheduled for planting in 2021.
The blueberries are now 9 years old and are producing abundant, sweet fresh berries. I spent a good part of March prunning them and the efforts were evident throughout the season.
This year the blackberries started out too early with the warm weather and were set back a little by the long period of heat. They hit their stride in early August and our u-pic customers found their fill. There was plenty to make this year's Blackberry Jam.
If you are in our area and want to stop by and checkout what's new in the Berry Building,
call us at 515 961 7252.
Seasonal hours for Tuesdays and Thursdays are 8 am to Noon. Saturday hours 10 am to 3 pm and Sunday hours are by appointment.
The farm closed for the season in October and will reopen in late May.
